Jaguar
Duffy was born in La Jolla, California in 1954 in a room within a stone's throw
of the Pacific Ocean. He attended the University of California at Santa Cruz in
his early twenties where he met and befriended Bill Everson, who became his
poetic mentor. Jaguar was primarily known as a singer/songwriter in central and
northern California during the late seventies and early eighties. After
returning to Northern California in 1985 following a three year stay in New
Jersey, he bought into an Irish Pub that friends owned called 'The Poet and
Patriot', becoming the main night bartender a year later. During this time he
focused on writing acapella ballads and poetry. Besides hosting a few readings
and performing in the region, on request he would launch into a few songs and
poems for the patrons at last call. In 1994 he moved to Utah and has lived there
ever since. For the past few years the 'Zoog' (an improvisational poem performed
with the intention of becoming and remaining vulnerable throughout the piece)
has become his signature form. He is currently working on his first book and
encouraging poets to write, improvise and voice performance poetry.
